The Hisers

It is clear that John Hiser was born in Bucks County, PA about 1759. It is not clear who his parents were. There was a Colonel John Hiester of Chester Co, PA who was active in the Revolutionary War. He was the son of Daniel Hiester and Catharine Shuler, natives of Witzenstien, Westphalia; and brother of Gabriel Hiester, born in Bern Twp Berks Co PA 17 June 1749; and of Colonel Daniel Hiester of Montgomery Co, and Cousin of Captain Joseph Hiester of Berks and one-time Governor of PA. I would like to think that these are our family but currently lack proof.

There is a record of a John Jacob Hiser, who arrived in in the port of Philadelphia on October 5, 1767 on the ship, Sally. He had a son, George Heiser/Hiser who was born about 1775 in Pennsylvania and married on August 21, 1796 in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Christina Filbs, born May 10, 1779 in Pennsylvania. The family removed to Lawrence Township, Stark County, Ohio as early as 1816.

George and Christina Hiser had two sons, John and Jacob, who married sisters. John married Rachel Eisenhauer on December 9, 1821 and Jacob married Catherine Eisenhauer on October 8, 1826 in Stark County, Ohio. The ladies were related to the future president, Dwight David Eisenhower.

It is interesting that Eisenhauer means "hewer of iron" or a miner of iron ore, and Hiser means "hewer" or miner. Both surnames originate in the mountains of southern Germany.
