The Fanchers

 The first known documented surname spellings of Fancher appear as variations of Fancy, Fancie, Fansey, etc. in the New Haven Colony in 1643. In the next generations, the original surname spelling of Fanshaw was predominant in the Connecticut Colonial records of our ancestors. It was at this same time that the variant Fancher spelling made its first appearance in 1717 Connecticut, and by the end of the 18th century had developed into the most common spelling of our surname.

Our first identified Fancher ancestor was Richard Fancher [548] born about 1705 and died in 1764 in Morris, Morris County, New Jersey. He married a Martha about 1730 and had a son, Benjamin [274].

Benjamin Fancher was born about 1735 in New Canaan, CT and died about 1805 in Servier County, Tennessee. He married Sarah __________ and had, among other children, Sarah Fancher.

Sarah Fancher [137] was born in 1768 in Morris County, New Jersey and died on 3 Jun 1855 in Barron County, Kentucky. She married John Hiser [136].
