| Growing up, I fully embraced my Southern heritage convinced that all those Yankees who came over on the Mayflower had stolen the South's credit as founder of this wonderful country. Thanks to genealogical research, today I glory in the accomplishments of all emigrants to the Americas. I am thrilled to be connected to those who came to New Sweden, to New Netherlands, to New England and to Maryland as well as Virginia and the Carolinas. The variety of religious beliefs in my ancestory demostrates to me the importance the Founding Fathers put on the First Amendment. In this generation, we find Lutherans, Quakers, Baptists, Catholics, Dutch Orthodox, Congregationists, Anglicans and probably a few atheists. |
