The Tenth Generation

 With this generation, the Parkers and Fosters begin their migration from the northern and middle colonies into North Carolina from which, in another generation, they will explode out into Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. The route they took, along the Great Wagon Road was such an epic part of colonial and frontier history, I have posted an essay regarding this event. 698 Simon Moon, b. April 11, 1700 Bucks Co., Pennsylvania; d. 1748/49, Frederick Co., Virginia. Although Simon and Lowry were Quakers they were married in the Christ Church in Philadelphia, on September 27, 1721. Early in the eighteenth century a large number of Friends went from Pennsylvania to Frederick Counties in Northern Virginia. They can be found in the records of the Hopewell Monthly Meeting in Frederick Co., Virginia.

704 Peter Cravens b 1710-1712 in Penn. Area, Salem County, NJ; d ca. 1775. Around 1761 Peter came with about a dozen other families, all Quakers, from Pennsylvania and settled in Randolph County, North Carolina and they cut from the original forests & built their homes. Peter settled near Coleridge. Peter was apparently one of the Regulators and was captured in the Battle of Alamance in 1771. Peter was a Staffordshire potter and had a pottery shop in Randolph County, NC by 1761. He refused to take the oath of allegience to NC in 1774. He may have been hanged as one of the leaders of the Regulators.
