The Second Generation

I, Jerry Lee Parker, declare this to be as accurate as I feel like making it; that is, not very! After all, aren't autobiographies supposed to be inaccurate puff pieces!? And we are supposed to worry about identity theft, aren't we?

I'm not too worried about identy theft. My credit is so bad, any thief can only improve it! So there!

I was born in the Equality State, Wyoming shortly after the second World War. It was winter time, so I decided to seek out a warmer climate to grow up in. Naturally, I had to drag my parents along but we finally reached California. First, we tried out the Fresno area, but that was too hot. We moved to the north coast, near Eureka, but that was too cold and wet. Finally, we ended up in Oroville. Six months of hot and six months of wet and two days of perfect weather, that was Oroville. All together, I lived there for 24 out of 37 years. I left four times before making it stick. Don't get me wrong. Oroville was and is a nice place to live. If you can make a living, which I wasn't able to do.

The first time I left took me to Kansas City, Missouri; to Arkansas, to Texas. In Texas I worked building F-111s for use in the Viet Nam war. The second time I left Oroville was to take up work in Sacramento with the US Postal Service. The third time took me and my family to Sundance, Wyoming. The last time, Marge and I slipped out of town to Reno, Nevada, where we finally feel like we have found home.

Margaret Sandra Pratt was born in Vancouver, British Columbia to a former Leftenant in the Canadian Women's Army Corps and a former Sargent Major in the Canadian Army. At age eight, the three moved to the United States. Like me, Marge moved about quite a bit before her father retired and selected Oroville as a good place to settle.

I had the good fortune to met Marge the day she moved to Oroville. For the last forty years, she has never been out of my mind for even a day. Those who do not believe in love at first sight, sorry, it happens. For those of you who are quick at math, Marge and I are survivers of the Sixties. Thank God.

I am a historian, teacher, writer, and lecturer. Marge is an administrative assistant and one damn good cook! She is also an author, being multi-published in many nations and countries. She is a machine knitter and designer and crafter and is well respected in knitting circles.

Together, we have moved some 56 times in our lives. That is what comes of being raised in construction. We figure we have one more move left in us -- but I am not sure our children could survive it!
